     Alfred Davis was born on 18 April 1882 in Tibberton, Wor. England.  Alfred was the first child of John and Eliza to go to the orphanage after John died.  When Alfred was about 31 he went to Austrailia.  He joined the war effort and died on 25 Apr 1915 in Gallipoli Turkey during World War 1.

   Alfred did not have any children that we know of.

In 1899 Alfred was 17 and a bricklayer according to William's Barnardo record.  Alfred served 12 years in Oxford Lt. Infantry.  So if he signed up when he was 17 he would have been 29 , 12 years later.  Then he must have gone to Australia, in 1911 or so.

Alfred sailed out of Adelaide South Austrailis, Austrailia on 20 October 1914 on  the A11 HMAT Ascanius.  He was with the 10th Infantry Battalion, South Australia.  This was the first detachment of the Imperial Expeditionary Forces. It was comprised of 1,005 men organised in 7 companies with two large platoons within each company.   The Australian War memorial has a photo of 9 soldiers from the 10 Battalion who would have sailed with Alfred.
